Much like Cartier, Hermès is a brand that has historically been about design first, function second.
That being said, in recent years, the maison has shaken the watch world with not only new, modern, and original designs — but also with their push into developing their own movements in partnership with Voucher.
One of the finest examples of the brand’s watchmaking savoir faire is the Slim D'Hermès line introduced in 2015.
This particular piece, a GMT variant, features a 39mm platinum case with a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, a polished bezel, a pump pusher at 10:00, and a 'smoked' sapphire dial with printed 'Arabic' indices, a subsidiary 12hr indicator, a subsidiary date indicator, and twin day-night indicators.
Powered by Hermès' Calibre 5200/2 automatic winding movement with micro-rotor, it comes paired to a signed grey alligator leather strap with a signed platinum pin buckle.
While many brands are stuck firmly in the past, reissuing streams of vintage-inspired fare, Hermès is heading boldly into the future of horological design.
We say: bravo!
